Dr. William B. (Butch) Drake, Jr, has been appointed senior vice president at Mid-Continent University

Dr. Drake served as president of Midway College in Midway, Ky., for 10 years. Since resigning in March 2012, Drake has operated his own consulting firm, Drake, Marcum and Associates, LLC

“We are fortunate to have someone of Dr. Drake’s experience and ability join the senior management team at Mid-Continent University,” President Robert Imhoff said in making the announcement. “His primary assignment will be to help us meet the ever increasing regulations imposed by the federal government and accrediting agencies. His knowledge also will be invaluable in the daily management as we continue to grow and meet the higher education challenges in the commonwealth and surrounding states.”

Dr. Drake’s accomplishments at Midway included doubling enrollment, improving the financial status by increasing donations, building new facilities, launching online programs, expanding course offerings and negotiating articulation agreements with five community colleges.

Imhoff said it was those accomplishments and Dr. Drake’s Christian faith that impressed him the most. “Our mission is to provide a faith-based education and win the lost to Christ,” Imhoff said. “Butch Drake has the same mission in his life and is a perfect fit for us.”

Dr. Drake said he is excited for the opportunity to work at MCU.  “I appreciate the confidence the president has in me,” Dr. Drake said. “I look forward to the challenge of using my experience in helping to continue the growth and expansion of Mid-Continent University. Its adult Advantage program is unique and is an important niche in meeting higher education needs to thousands of students in Kentucky and southern Illinois.”

The Advantage program offers courses in more than 30 communities which allow older students to continuing working and taking care of their families while earning a college degree to improve qualifications.

“It’s going to be a privilege to work alongside a staff and faculty that works unselfishly to meet Mid-Continent’s mission and offer opportunities for an affordable and accessible education,” Dr. Drake said. “Dr. Imhoff has provided unique and unprecedented leadership that has seen Mid-Continent University grow from fewer than 200 students when he became president in 2000 to more than 2,300 today.  The best is yet to come.”
