Larry Orange

Dean of the James W. Cecil College of the Bible
Faculty

Dr. Larry Orange, Dean of Mid-Continent University’s James W. Cecil Baptist College of the Bible, Chair of the Biblical Studies and Christian Ministries Departments, and Director of the Bi-vocational Center  became part of the Mid-Continent faculty in January of 1998. His ministry covers 47 years of service as pastor, teacher, and Director of Missions.  He has also served the North American Mission Board as consultant in Bivocational Ministry and Church Planting.

Dr. Orange is a graduate of Campbellsville University with a BS degree in English.  He has a Master of Arts in Education from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

He and his wife, Janet, now live in Mayfield, Kentucky. They have three children and eleven grandchildren.

Ray Carroll

Faculty

Raymond E. Carroll is Director of Adjunct Faculty Instruction and Assessment of Experiential Learning. He also teaches in the College of the Bible. He earned a B.A.  degree from Union University in Jackson, TN,  Master of Divinity and  Doctor of Theology degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He has done additional studies at University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Dr. Carroll has held faculty and staff positions at Mid-Continent University since 2001. Since 1998 he has served a congregation in Dyer, TN, where he resides. He has one daughter and two grand-daughters. Carroll has membership in the American Society of Church History and Baptist History and Heritage Society.

James W. Cecil

Faculty

Dr. James W. Cecil, Dean Emeritus, Chair of the Missions and Evangelism Department of the James W. Cecil Baptist College of Bible, and Director of the University’s Global Mission Center, joined the faculty of Mid-Continent University (then Mid-Continent Baptist College of the Bible) on July 1, 1993, following 26 years of service with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (twelve years in China and fourteen years as an international consultant on volunteerism). In addition to his service as a missionary and ministry with Mid-Continent University Dr. Cecil has served several churches as Pastor. Prior to entering full time Church related ministries, in 1955, he was a partner in the Flagstaff, Arizona accounting firm of McCauley and Cecil.

Dr. Cecil graduated from Northern Arizona University with a BS degree in accounting.  He also attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned the Master of Religion Education, Master of Divinity., and The Graduate Specialist in Education, degrees.  He earned the Doctor of Education Degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth Texas. He has done post Doctoral studies at Murray State University.  

Following the death of Katharine, his wife of nearly fifty years, he married Mary Fields Benson.  Dr. Cecil and Mary have eight children, twelve grand children and eighteen great grand children.  In addition to his teaching responsibilities the he, along with Mary, spend time ministering among the Native American Indian tribes of southern Arizona as Mission Service Corps Missionaries of the North American Mission Board.

Don Embry

Faculty

Don Embry is an instructor of Christian Ministries and Biblical Studies in the James W. Cecil Baptist College of the Bible and an instructor of Management in the Mid-Continent Management Degree program. Don serves also as Staff Evangelist for Mid-Continent University and Director of the Christian Ministry Certificate Program. Mr. Embry earned a BA degree from Mid-Continent Baptist Bible College in 1982, an MACE degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1992, and a MAT degree from The Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA in 2007. He has served in six Baptist Churches in three states for over thirty years before joining the faculty of Mid-Continent University.  Mr. Embry has been married to Shirley for forty-six years and they have one daughter, a son-in-law, and one granddaughter residing in Monroe, GA.

CJ Turner

Faculty

C.J. Turner is the Associate Dean of Online Learning, the Online Learning Center Coordinator, and a Bible Instructor. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies at Mid-Continent Baptist Bible College, Mayfield, KY in 1998, a Masters of Divinity in Christian Education from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY in 2003, and a Masters of Theology from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY in 2009, by the grace of our Lord. He was born in Munich, West Germany and is now a naturalized U.S. Citizen.
Professor Turner served in the U.S. Army as a medic for 12 years. During his time of service, he had the opportunity to serve in Iraq for the Gulf War earning the Combat Medical Badge. While serving he has visited various countries and states most all in the line of duty. He had the opportunity to sail several bodies of water in the line of duty as well.
Professor Turner is a committed follower of Jesus Christ whovloves to teach and continues to hope that God will use him to serve God’s Kingdom. He has a passion for getting church members to become productive members of God’s Kingdom. He has been married to his wife, Mitzi, for thirteen years, and God has blessed them with two grown children, Joseph and Jennifer, who have each professed their devotion to Christ as Lord.

Phillip Yang

Faculty

Philip Yang received his Ph.D. in Material Science and Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His B.S. in Applied Chemistry is from Feng Chia University in Taiwan. Besides Ph.D. and B.S. degrees, Professor Yang also holds three Master’s. His Master of Science in Chemistry and Master in Business Administration (MBA) are from Cleveland State University. He also holds a Master of Art in Theological Studies from Seminary of the East of Bethel University, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Dr. Yang is an inventor of six US and European patents. His publications include seven scientific publications in English, and more than twenty articles in leadership and ministry in Chinese.

Dr. Yang is an owner of multiple businesses and an overseer of an Evangelical fellowship of international churches in USA, Taiwan, and China. He and his wife have been married for more than twenty years. They have a son currently attending law school in Pennsylvania.
