The Southern Illinois Personnel Management Association (SIPMA) recently announced Andrew Devenport as the recipient of their 2013 scholarship.
Andrew said, “Recently I received a scholarship from the Southern Illinois Professional Management Association. This organization targets Human Resource and Business Management students in the southern Illinois area. I work full time and I am paying for school out-of-pocket and through loans. This $1,000 scholarship went directly to paying back my current loans. I am very grateful to the organization for helping alleviate some of these loans.”
SIPMA is dedicated to providing human resource professionals the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills through interaction with colleagues and education from professionals working in HR related fields. Its goal is to provide its members with resources for education and research in the HR field, promote HR careers through its annual scholarship fund, offer networking opportunities, build membership, and provide a confidential forum for discussion of sensitive HR issues.
SIPMA’s scholarship is awarded to a candidate who meets the following criteria: must be enrolled in an HR or Business program at an approved school or enrolled/enrolling in the SHRM preparation or HR Essentials classes. The recipient must be a second year student if enrolled/enrolling in college (not required for SHRM or HR Essentials). Also required are recommendations from professors or other professionals; official transcripts reflecting grade point average (unless enrolling in SHRM/HR Essentials classes) of 2.5 or above; and the candidate must attend the SIPMA conference to accept the award.
Adults have challenges with access to education. Bringing classes to the adult’s own community that meet just one night a week makes the goal of achieving one's degree much more feasible for area residents. When adults learn that classes are this convenient, their hope for a college education is revived. This opens a pathway to success that may not have been available previously. Sometimes adults worry that their schedule could change or they could find a job in another part of the country. If this happens, Mid-Continent also offers the associate, bachelor and master degrees ONLINE. There is no circumstance that can keep someone from successfully completing a degree if he/she is willing to work at it.
